Man in the sea

For many centuries in all people and peoples of this cry had the same sense of alarm: “From the man was a trouble! Help me! “In the future, mankind will give those words a different meaning. Constantly increasing world population will become more and more closely within the land, and it goes into the sea – will win at the sea of space for their settlements.

The point is not new. The first such experience had piles of construction on wetlands and coastal zone created by the hands of our ancestors.  Then he went on to mankind – fencing off from the sea by high dams, it has become artificially increase the size of the land, using it as a place of their habitat.

“God made the sea, the Dutch – its banks,” as says an old proverb Netherlands. And there is much exaggeration – 1800 km of dikes and dunes protect the Netherlands from the sea. If this protection was not, the area’s most populous country in the world (12 million to 30 thousand km2) would have decreased by half. But the fence in the land from the sea – it does not mean to get already habitable land. It has yet to be drained. Romantic windmills, without which we can not imagine the Dutch landscape, no grind, and they siphon off water from the polders – land, surrounded on all sides nalami and drainage ditches.

But this way of conquest of maritime areas is extremely time-consuming and expensive. And, mindful of the ancient architects, and their modern counterparts see the city of the future … above the sea. Japanese architect Otan proposed to make in Tokyo Bay at the artificial island pile new neighborhoods of his native city, excessively overgrown now ten millionth of Tokyo.  Israeli architect Jonah Freedman of Haifa, believes that the future belongs to the city-bridges. In his opinion, such a city bridge, thrown across the Channel, will be able to accommodate 80 thousand inhabitants. Chinese home-junks (light sailing ships), standing on the float at the mouths of rivers, served as the prototype of the floating city called “islands” of the future, safely moored fantasizing engineers and architects in the best locations for the human habitat of the oceans.

Rethinking tell our great compatriot Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, the phrase: “Earth – the cradle of the mind, but you can not live forever in a cradle, it can be said that humanity in its quest for exploration of our planet will not stop the conquest of land and sea surface – it will go into the water, work and live in the depths of the oceans. More recently, such an assertion would have seemed too daring fiction. But thanks to the tireless work of people fanatically committed to the conquest of the “blue continent”, the world believe in the reality of those plans.  The first experimental human settlements have emerged in the deep ocean. ”Father aquanauts – French scientist Jacques-Yves Cousteau – organized several outstanding experiments on development of the deep sea. In his brainchild – a spherical underwater home “Prekontinent-HQ in the Mediterranean Sea off Cape Ferrat – at a depth of 100 meters six people lived and worked for three weeks. At the end of the experience Cousteau said that “at this depth and in such circumstances, people keep all their physical and intellectual abilities. ”

Almost simultaneously, the same experiment was successfully carried out in Pacific waters off the coast of Southern California. Cylindrical underwater laboratory “Sileb-II», submerged to a depth of 60 m, for 45 days served as home to three groups aquanauts. Two of them commanded by American astronaut Scott Carpenter, stay under water for about 30 days. He managed to establish direct radio communication between Sileb-II “and the spacecraft” Gemini-6.

In the American experiment, the first time in human history took part tamed dolphin, nicknamed “Taffy” acting as a messenger and assistant lifeguard.  So here, in the depths of blue of the continent, one can find a faithful friend – a pet, in no way inferior to his land to friends – a horse and a dog.
